Little Peasant Dress

Even though we have had record heat this year and are looking at another week of 100 degree weather, I am trying to look forward to fall and determine what my little ones are going to need. It seems like we always have an abundance of sleeveless dresses but never anything for cold weather. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I drafted this little pattern today. I think there are a few quirks that need to be worked out but my littlest one seems to approve.

Sewing Class: Drawstring Backpack

This backpack is super easy and quick to make. I think it would be

great for putting gifts in instead of gift bags. Can't you just see yourself

as "that" mom? The one with the most creative gifts that everyone compliments you on? I can.

First Aid Pouch

It's kind of an unspoken motto that I live by, "the best things in life are practical and cute." That's why my kids' pillowcases have zippered pockets built in, our hair brushes have gemstones on them, and we have homemade grocery bags. That's also why I married my husband, he's practical and cute. (Hahaha, just a little joke.) So when I stumbled across a tutorial for a first aid pouch I just had to make one for myself. I changed the size of mine (mine is 6" x 4.5" finished) and deviated from the sewing directions a bit (I used my own steps for sewing a zippered pouch, found here: Zippered Pencil Pouch ) but the idea is the same. I can't decide whether to put it in the car or the diaper bag. I guess I will just have to make two.

One Of Those Kinds Of Days

Today has just been one of those kinds of days. You know, were everything just seems to be going badly. It started at about 4:30 am when one of the twins woke up crying. That's pretty common for her but I still have yet to get used to it. The rest of my day just kind of followed suit. So after lunch I decided that some sewing therapy was in order. I kicked the older three outside to go play and put the little ones down for a nap. It was pretty short lived but it did help my mood.

I started working on some little outfits for the twins. What does that say about me that when they turned one year old, instead of buying clothes, a friend bought us a gift card to the fabric store so that I could make them clothes? I was pretty excited so I hope that it's a good thing.

Sewing Class: The Apple Dress

  One of the perks of having four daughters is that I get to sew a lot of dresses. I would like to share with you one of my favorite dresses. It is super easy and takes very little time to make. If you are familiar with the pillow case dress, it is the same basic idea. I like to make mine with regular fabric so that I can make it any size that I want. (The measurements given are for a size 12m.)

Sewing Class: Make Your Own Bias Tape

In an upcoming project we will be using bias tape. Before we get to that project I thought this might be a great time to talk about making our own bias tape. I am a perfectionist and must have perfectly matching colors at all times (yes, I know, it's a problem) so sometimes the pre-packaged bias tape just doesn't cut it for me. Besides, if you make your own your options

are limitless.

Just what is bias tape, you ask? Bias tape is fabric cut at a 45 degree angle and folded in a way that leaves no raw edges showing. Because it is cut on the bias it has some stretch to it. Bias tape is one of the most common notions in the sewing world. It's really not that hard to make so let's
